Invitation – online event for members – Regulatory divergence between the UK and EU
As companies plan for the future and assess the regulatory climate in which they will operate, understanding the extent to which the UK has diverged and may diverge from the EU in the future is a key consideration, influencing costs and efficiencies.
To help understand and anticipate regulatory direction, PAGB in partnership with the British Brands Group is organising an online meeting with ‘UK in a Changing Europe’ (UKICE), an academic think tank with close links to King’s College London. This is free to members and will be held on the MS Teams platform on Tuesday 10 December between 14:00 – 15:00. To register, complete this link and you will be sent a calendar placeholder.
The event will focus on the think tank’s Divergence Tracker (more information below) and will comprise a 30-minute presentation followed by discussion. The content will be tailored to the FMCG agenda and will include such areas at the Product Safety and Metrology Bill, Deforestation, On-pack recycling labels, Vehicle emissions and safety, Not for EU labelling and Medical Devices. Before the close, we will explore the ideal frequency of such updates and discussions in the future.
The meeting is open to everyone in your organisation with an interest in this area and will be of particular value to those in Regulatory, Legal and Corporate Affairs roles.
UK in a changing Europe
The UK in a Changing Europe’s Divergence Tracker provides the single-most comprehensive overview of regulatory divergence between the UK and EU. Published quarterly, it monitors where and how the UK and EU are moving away from one another in regulatory terms post-Brexit, and analyses the impacts on business, government and civil society.
Launched in 2021, the Divergence Tracker now runs to twelve editions and over 250 case studies. It is widely used by UK government departments and businesses for their own divergence monitoring purposes, and its findings have been covered in national media including the Financial Times, Guardian and Economist.
Joël Reland is a Senior Researcher at UK in a Changing Europe and author of the Divergence Tracker. He writes regularly on the issue of regulatory divergence and has given evidence on the matter to committees of the UK, Scottish and Northern Irish parliaments. He will provide an overview of his findings, explaining the impacts of divergence so far, the change in approach to managing it under the new government, and key divergence-related issues which still need resolving.
UK in a Changing Europe is an academic think tank which has been providing impartial, research-based analysis on the UK-EU relationship since 2015. It is funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and hosted by King’s College London.
