UWWTD legislative proposal – final AESGP position and next steps

The AESGP team have provided the following update:Further to our previous emails, please find enclosed the final AESGP position relating to the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD) legislative proposal, gathering members opinions and experts views to detail the general Board decision on this matter. This Position Paper is intended as a simplified document for a non-expert audience but based on expert views and on the strategic approach to lead the legislative file. Thank you to all that have contributed to this position paper.The document enclosed in pdf format can be used as national associations see fit at the National level.As a next step, we urge National Association Members to disseminate the Position Paper to the national authorities responsible for Medicines and for Water Treatment policies, as well as the respective Ministries in charge of Health and Environment. More details on next advocacy steps to be shared with ECOCOM and National Associations Coordination GroupOn the wake of the publication of the Commission Proposal on Zero Pollution package, AESGP together with other relevant Pharma Industry European Associations (EFPIA and Medicines for Europe), has asked European Commission’s DG ENV for a meeting to clear out some of the provisions relating to the application of Extended Producer Responsibility and use of EQS values to medicinal products. This joint meeting is taking place on 26 January. In preparation of this meeting, the enclosed draft set of questions has been drafted with the assistance of the AESGP Environment Expert Group. It is currently being finalised with the other partner associations until the end of the week.

Next steps

  • From Now on; dissemination of the AESGP position paper to national relevant authorities responsible for Medicines and for Water Treatment policies, as well as the respective Ministries in charge of Health and Environment. More details on next advocacy steps to be shared with ECOCOM and National Associations Coordination Group
  • 26 January; Joint association meeting (AESGP, EFPIA and MfE) with DG Environment to clarify elements of the legislative proposal
  • By 14 March (date can still be extended until the adopted proposal is available in all EU language), AESGP is to submit its feedback to the Commission consultation.
  • Ongoing: AESGP together with EFPIA and Medicines for Europe is coordinating advocacy efforts towards the European Commission, Council and European Parliament. More information will be shared with ECOCOM, National Associations Coordination Group and Environment EG in the coming weeks.
