Blog post: Introduction to PAGB’s strategic pillar two with Christina Gkouva

PAGB's Director of Regulatory Affairs takes us through the second of our strategic pillars in PAGB's new 5-year strategy: Navigating regulatory complexity for our members.

Christina Gkouva is Director of Regulatory Affairs at PAGB and is responsible for PAGB’s work navigating regulatory complexities and helping to shape regulatory policy in line with PAGB’s strategy. The Regulatory Affairs team support members with providing clear guidance on regulatory issues that impact medicines, medical devices, food supplements, as well as topical issues.

Introduction to PAGB’s strategic pillar two

At PAGB, our new vision is for the UK to lead the way in consumer healthcare, underpinned by a robust regulatory and policy framework. This vision aims to offer unparalleled access to products that empower consumers to self-care with confidence. As the Director of Regulatory Affairs, I am excited to lead our team in advancing this vision through our mission: to be the expert voice of the UK consumer healthcare industry, shaping the future of self-care through self-regulation and advocacy.

Strategic Pillar 2 is dedicated to navigating regulatory complexity for our members. Our objective is to provide clear guidance on regulatory changes and manage emerging industry issues effectively. This pillar is critical to ensuring that our members can adapt to and thrive within the evolving regulatory landscape, and we will deliver it via 3 critical success factors:

Collaboration and analysis

Collaboration and analysis

Collaboration with stakeholders is key to analysing legislative and policy changes and assessing their impacts on our members. This is particularly crucial in reference to UK and EU regulations and sustainability and environmental considerations. By working closely with industry experts, government bodies, and other stakeholders, we ensure that our members are well-informed and prepared for any regulatory shifts. Recognising the ever-changing landscape and the wide range of emerging topics, we have also developed a focused approach to identify and prioritise the issues that matter most to our members.

Risk identification and management

Risk identification and management

Identifying and managing industry ingredient and sector risks is a key component of our strategy. By staying ahead of potential risks, we help our members mitigate challenges before they become significant issues. This proactive approach is essential for maintaining the integrity and safety of consumer healthcare products.

Effective horizon scanning

Effective horizon scanning

Conducting effective horizon scanning allows us to provide insightful intelligence to our members. By monitoring national and global trends, technological advancements, and regulatory developments, we can offer timely and relevant information that helps our members make informed decisions.

In parallel with these efforts, an integrated communication plan is executed across all channels covered by PAGB. This ensures that our members receive consistent, clear, and actionable information, enabling them to stay ahead in a dynamic regulatory environment.

As we move forward, PAGB is committed to leading the way in consumer healthcare. Through Strategic Pillar 2, we will continue to provide the guidance and support our members need to navigate regulatory complexities confidently. Together, we can shape a future where consumers have access to safe, effective, and empowering healthcare products. Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this exciting journey. We are dedicated to our vision and mission, and we look forward to working with our members to achieve these goals.
